Ian Wright claims Chelsea are missing a “special player” after the 1-0 loss to Newcastle.
He said: “I felt like when we saw those clips they were continuously going into Newcastle's strength, I thought they could have gone a little bit wider.
“What is evident for everyone to see is they need that special player that can open a team like that up.
“They don't have that.”
DUNK IN CHELSEA?
Chelsea are set to launch a £48m bid to sign Lewis Dunk from Brighton.
Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen his backline, with just four senior centre-backs including injury-prone Antonio Rudiger, youngster Fikayo Tomori and the inconsistent Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma.
Bournemouth's Nathan Ake had been a target in a move that would see the Dutchman return to Stamford Bridge.
But the Daily Star report that 28-year-old Dunk is the preferred target – and the £48m fee would be the fourth-highest for an English defender.
Manchester United are set to go up to £15million for Birmingham star Jude Bellingham — to fend off a late move by Chelsea.
The Old Trafford giants are prepared to slap in the up-front sum for the 16-year-old midfielder because they know of Frank Lampard’s interest, SunSport's Alan Nixon can reveal.
Birmingham may have to accept the offer but they hope United will loan him back for the season.
Wolves have dropped out of the hunt and leading foreign clubs are still lurking in the hope that Bellingham goes cheap at the end of his contract.
Blues boss Pep Clotet could do with the funds for players, and plans to join the hunt for Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison.
Posh will take around £1.5m for the attacking midfielder but Birmingham have been tempting them with a player or two in exchange, including keeper David Stockdale.
CHELSEA have begun talks with RB Leipzig's hotshot Timo Werner – but it has attracted some unwelcomed competition.
The Blues hope to tie up the signing of the German international, despite Tammy Abraham's stunning season so far.
But, according to the Daily Star, Liverpool have joined the race for the £60m striker, who has netted 20 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga in this campaign.
Chelsea are looking to add star quality to their mix after seeing their transfer ban lifted, and are reported to have £150m to spend this month.
