FANS of Netflix's Mindhunter have been waiting patiently for season 3 - but it looks like they could be in for a long wait.
The true-crime drama proved a big hit, but now fans are worried it could be up for the chop after it was revealed the the cast have been released from contracts "indefinitely".
The future of the show has been put on hold while series director and executive producer David Fincher works on his first feature film for the streaming site called Mank.
Since season 2 dropped back in August, the actors contracts with the show have lapsed - which means they are allowed to seek out other work if they choose.
A Netflix spokesman told Entertainment Weekly: “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots.
“He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
There is no official cancellation statement from Netflix, but fans are already fearing the worse.
One tweeted: "#Mindhunter is legitimately one of the best shows to grace our screens with brilliant casting, dialogue and drama. Fincher and Netflix you better fix this and give us season 3 ASAP."
Another said: "Is Netflix actually serious about this?? Pausing #Mindhunter season 3 and releasing the cast from the contracts all so Fincher can make a movie about screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz?"
While this one was distraught: "This is the worst news Netflix better not cancel or imma combust GIVE ME SEASON 3 IM GOING TO CRY [sic]."
The show - which stars Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany - follows the two FBI agents in the late 70s and 80s as they try to understand the twisted minds of America's most dangerous serial killers in order to catch them.
During their dogged pursuit, they end up pioneering the development of modern-day serial killer profiling.
